A daring NASA is all set to tour the red planet next week. Its latest Curiosity rover mission, a project worth $ 2.5bn will enter the Martian air on Monday, August 6 – when most of the world's eyeballs will be busy watching the London Olympics live in action. Apparently, the mobile Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) is expected to rise in upheaval for the rest of the geological history of our fellow planet, if only it could land safely.

It was only a few weeks ago when I talked about universal laws of physics may not be uniform across time and space. And then we had the news from CERN on faster than light Neutrinos. Now it seems that second experiment confirms the first finding and we don't have to travel too far and proof is only a few hundred miles in central Europe. The Physics shocker talked about in the last few hours is that Neutrinos are clocked faster than light itself.

It was only back in August that most Scientists at CERN thought that most probably the elusive Higgs Boson Particle does not exist. Last week the ultra-shy Higgs boson is thought to have finally shown itself at the LHC. Both of the main detectors, ATLAS and CMS, have uncovered hints of a lightweight Higgs. If this is true then, the only remaining hole in the standard model would be filled.

I was intrigued the other day when I read on BBC news that there is water on Mars. The appearance of what scientists believe is flowing salt water on Mars has reignited speculation about alien life. These high-resolution images sent from NASA's orbiter show what appear to be marks left by water flowing down from Mars' rocky slopes, and a report on the findings published in the latest issue of the journal Science.

Probably this very question was the main topic prompting me to do Physics at University, the idea that other universes - as well as our own - lie within "bubbles" of space and time has received a boost. I recently discussed "Is Moore's Law dead? What happens if CPU speed does not keep up with our demands?" in my blog. Where doubling the number of transistors on a silicon device every two years was no longer possible. This is because the 22-nanometer limit in semiconductor substrate could not be reduced with current Transistor Technology. However, with Transistors entering the third dimension, this limit is no longer relevant as we can carry on doubling the number of transistors on a silicon device every two years in the third dimension. This is revealed in the latest news release by Intel.

Discovery and the STS-133 astronauts arrived at the International Space Station Saturday afternoon, bringing a logistics module and Robonaut 2. The mission's first spacewalk is set for Monday. It's not science fiction. A humanoid robot is headed to space on the shuttle Discovery. ESA’s second Automated Transfer Vehicle will be launched on today. Watch it here live. This flight is representing the third of five back-to-back launches to the International Space Station in a 2-month period, the European Space Agency stands ready to the launch the ATV-2 (Automated Transfer Vehicle 2) spacecraft on a multi-month mission to deliver thousands of pounds of supplies to the leading orbital outpost. The mission will also hold the distinction of being flown to orbit on the 200th Ariane rocket launch, the 56th launch for the workhorse Ariane 5 variant. Here is a list to name a few, Submarine, iPad, iPhone or Laser Guns, where all of these were Science Fiction that has turned out to be accurate predictions. In the next decade there are going to be more Sci-Fi turning Practical Science.

Scottish scientists have built a 1,000-core processor, claiming that this chip could make desktop computers 20 times faster. For example, currently the fastest pc runs an Intel® Core™ i7 Processor Extreme Edition which is about 6 core. However, Dr Wim Vanderbauwhede and colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Lowell have created a processor which effectively contains more than a thousand cores on a single chip.

A few months ago Gordon Moore stated that More Law is dead. It is nearly 40 years since the publication of his law which states the transistor density on integrated circuits double about every two years. This is quite obvious as at one point one will find we cannot build a transistor with just a small number of atoms.
