Its latest product, Compute Engine is a smart addition to Google's already great array of worthwhile services.The Google Compute Engine is a cloud-based supercomputing infrastructure which is easily and quickly accessible to app developers. Compute Engine runs processes and integrates information fast and in an efficient manner. The service is currently in the market as a limited preview.

This week the world’s largest online retailer Amazon.com Inc, unveiled its Kindle Fire tablet computer, taking aim at Apple Inc. bestselling iPad with a device that’s smaller and less than half the price. It is clearly not as good and it does not do as much. But then it is 1/2 price and to a lot of people that have budget constraints due to the current financial climate, then 1/2 would mean lets buy it since that is all the money we have.

I have no idea why Sony did not add a phone for this good looking walk man to Compete with the iPod? Sony Japan announced the NW-Z1000 series today, their three newest Walkmans, which come with an array of flashy features. Now Sony priced and dated the devices for their home market. The prices start at $364 or £200 with 16GB on board which suites most users.

IBM and 3M Glue to allow us to Sustain Moore's Law

IBM and 3M are working together to create an adhesive that can be used to stick layers of semiconductors together. Using some 100 such layers, they should be able to create some fast commercial-grade processors. IBM believes that taking this approach should give the ability to create processors that are roughly 1000 times faster than the ones used today. 3M will be working on an adhesive that can stick these layers together but also act as an effective cooling medium that can transfer heat quickly.

Google acquiring Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion, This is probably very good news for more official Google Android devices? But as I understand it, the main reason for the big price tag is Motorola's their mobile patents – all 17000 of them and some more pending. To get Google pay this big sum, the rumour is that Motorola was hinting that they also may start flexing their IP muscle and sue other Android manufacturers. That’s the kind of uncertainty that Google doesn’t need, especially since they are already being sued for violating patents on Android.

Last week I was at my local PCWORLD superstore in Guildford/UK and walked by the brand new Tablet section. I was rather shocked to see it had as bigger real-estate as laptops. So I thought I spend some time testing various connected devices from 180 GBP to high end devices at around 600 GBP. I initially thought with that many choices, the days of iPad is numbered. But then with closer examination, I realized majority is just cheap copies that are not cheap enough.

Back in May I said that I was happy not to upgrade to iPad2 because iPad 3 is bound to be 3D so i might as well weight as there is nothing wrong with my iPad One. Now in a new report from RCRWireless claims that the iPad 3 will definitely have a 3D screen with major backing by large Hollywood film studios. Question: Glasses or no glasses?

Recently more and more free magazines are hitting the iPad and no doubt other Tablets when they eventually get going. However, I do find them intriguing as these days I just don't have the time to buy papers, and unless we have an election going on, or some disaster going on that requires my immediate attention, these free Magazines are the way to go.

With Apple patenting number of methods in 3D environment and the talk of iPad 3 being in 3D, the a 3D desktop interface to an otherwise 2D operating system is gaining traction. This is the latest patent is coming from Microsoft, which recently received a patent for what it describes as a "method and apparatus for providing a three-dimensional task gallery computer interface." In summary, this is an interface intended to help you better manage multiple tasks on your desktop. IMO it is still designed for Desktop PC and not mobile devices but, the patent suggests this could be done in a 3D environment with a floor, walls and a ceiling.

May be I was wise for not upgrading to iPad2 and wait for 3D iPad 3!

Earlier last year I reported the sightings of lots of 3D patent submissions by Apple. Today InTuit announced:- GoPayment App for iPad Now Available on the App Store - and this must be exciting news for small shop owner. So with GoPayment the mobile payment app allows anyone who sells a product or service get paid on the spot by easily and quickly processing credit cards. This got me excited as I have a customer in UK that we did their web store, and would love something like this due to its low cost.

This is another great Gartner's Press Release about the Tablet Market. With a difference - It is not just showing some forecast - it also giving some hard advice to the competition to what it is that they are doing wrong. The headline just says that Apple’s iOS will continue to own the majority of the worldwide media tablet through 2015, with 69 percent of media tablet OSs in 2011, and represent 47 percent of the media tablet market in 2015.

comScore’s February mobile report was released today, and it looks like good news for Google and to certain extend good for most providers as they mostly show increased revenue even if they are not increasing market share. Whilst all this is happening, I lost my SmartPhone over a month ago, and I am not missing it. So I am asking myself why not? It could be my age or it could be that I have been there and done it so there is no more excitement in this technology for people like me.

Android has received a whole new user interface to take advantage of the abundant screen real estate. For the past year, my wife has been begging me to buy a new phone as she says my old phone is mostly unavailable in recent times. From the above number, Apple sold almost 15 million iPads last year or just about 90% of all tablets sold. In fact now it is outselling Macs in units, and closing in on revenues. The 7.3 million iPads sold just in the December quarter represented a 75 percent increase from the September quarter, and the $4.6 billion in revenue represented a 65 percent sequential jump. (The iPad was launched in April 2010).

As the buzz about cloud computing continues to grow, there are some questions like, is it the end of Data Centres? I have been watching the headline news on Cloud Computing and its impact on Data Centre and traditional Hosting companies. For example, IDC thinks that data centre capacity is to shrink, because of IT consolidation and the combined response of utility/cloud computing or server virtualisation (with the need for less servers). This is attractive in the current climate, thanks to the need to cut costs and reduce duplication and overlap.

Trying to find something on what used to be called the Internet has now reached a new paradigm shift. It’s not so much that various media strategies and hardware devices have carved things up into a tangle of web. For about 3 years now, I have been very happy with my Sky TV , if you are outside UK, it is satellite broadcast with good selection of movie channels and entertainments + all the free stuff you get over here in UK. On top of that I have a PC under my TV that is quite enough to be used so I can use BBC iPlayer, SkyPlayer....
